What is Abhyanga?

‘Abhyanga’ is a widely practiced ayurvedic therapy that refers to the external application of oil(Taila) over skin covering the whole body or part. Ayurveda emphasis on daily practices of Abhyanga by everyone to lead a healthy life.

    Contra-indications

    • Any acute infection, fever, indigestion, and diarrhoea.
    • For Pregnant women and new born -can be performed only under supervision and doctor’s advice.

    Procedure

    Abhyanga is performed by a well-trained Ayurveda therapist.

    The patient will be made to lie down over a specially designed wooden table called ‘Droni’

    A lukewarm oil is applied over the body in 7 different postures as listed below:

    • Sitting
    • Supine
    • Right lateral
    • Lying face down
    • Left lateral
    • Supine
    • Sitting

    After the procedure, the person is directed to any form of herbal fomentation as required and followed by a hot shower.
