The main cleansing process includes the administration of Ayurvedic herbs or medications known as purgatives, which induce controlled purgation to expel accumulated toxins from the gastrointestinal tract.
Types of Basti
The different types of Basti in Ayurveda provide a diverse range of therapeutic effects and benefits. Whether it is the lubricating and nourishing properties of Anuvasana Basti, the detoxifying effects of Niruha Basti, or the reproductive health support of Uttara Basti, each type serves a unique purpose in restoring balance and promoting well-being
Anuvasana Basti
Anuvasana Basti involves the administration of medicated oils or ghee into the rectum. It nourishes and lubricates the colon, promoting smooth bowel movements, relieving constipation, and supporting overall digestive health. Anuvasana Basti is particularly beneficial for balancing Vata dosha and rejuvenating the body tissues.
Niruha Basti
Niruha Basti, also known as Kashaya Basti, utilizes herbal decoctions along with oils or ghee. It aids in detoxification, eliminates accumulated toxins, and balances doshic imbalances. Niruha Basti is often recommended for addressing conditions like digestive disorders, arthritis, and metabolic disorders. It helps restore harmony and promotes overall well-being.
Ksheera Basti
Ksheera Basti employs the use of medicated milk instead of oils or decoctions. It offers nourishment, hydration, and rejuvenation to the body tissues. Ksheera Basti is particularly beneficial for conditions involving Pitta and Vata imbalances, such as digestive disorders, skin conditions, and inflammatory conditions. It helps cool and pacify aggravated doshas, promoting balance and harmony.
Matra Basti
Matra Basti involves administering a small volume of medicated oil or herbal decoction into the rectum. It is performed daily for a specific duration as part of a rejuvenation regimen. Matra Basti helps nourish and strengthen the colon, improves digestion, and supports detoxification. It is particularly beneficial for individuals seeking holistic rejuvenation and overall wellness.
Uttra Basti
Uttara Basti is a unique type of enema that involves the introduction of medicated substances through the urinary or vaginal route. It is primarily used to address reproductive health concerns, such as infertility, menstrual irregularities, and certain gynecological disorders. Uttara Basti helps balance hormonal levels, nourishes the reproductive organs, and promotes overall reproductive well-being.
